Families in Action Day

September 30, 2025 | 5pm – 6pm | On-site | Adults & children currently in kindergarten or older | 1 hour 

Looking to spend time as a family while enriching the lives of animals? Bring your family and volunteer at Wayside Waifs! Whether you’ve volunteered with us before or are a first-timer, Families in Action Day is a perfect opportunity to volunteer at an animal shelter, especially for kids who aren’t yet old enough to join the adult volunteer program. Attendees will participate in some get-to-know-you activities, take a short tour of the shelter, and do a volunteer project for the animals!

Children participating must be currently in kindergarten or older. Some volunteer projects and activities will not be suited for younger children. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Kitten Yoga

October 8, 2025| 5pm – 6m | On-site | Adults and children currently in kindergarten or older | 1 hour 

Join us at Wayside Waifs for yoga with adoptable kittens. While attendees participate in easy, slow-paced yoga, kittens will be able to explore the room and experience the calm atmosphere that everyone has created. Direct animal interaction is never guaranteed but the kittens will have the option to approach attendees and request petting. The event will consist of a short tour, an introduction to cat body language, and approximately 30 minutes of yoga, led by one of our educators. If kittens are not available, we will be joined by companion dogs. Space is limited so register now!

Virtual Story Times for Bullying Prevention Month

October is Bullying Prevention Month and to celebrate, Wayside Waifs’ educators are hosting virtual story times! These 45-minute programs will be held on Zoom and include a brief tour of the shelter and a kindness-themed story or two. Register for as many dates as you’d like! Registration is required. After registering, the Zoom link will be emailed to you a few days before the event.

Enrichment 101 Seminar

December 4, 2025 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm | On-site | All ages | 1 hour 

Are you looking to enrich your pet’s life, reduce their anxiety, exercise their brain and body, and prevent boredom? The Enrichment 101 Seminar at Wayside Waifs is perfect for you!  Join us for a free seminar on all things pet enrichment. Led by a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Humane Educator, we’ll be discussing why and how we can implement enrichment, doing hands-on activities, preparing enrichment for the shelter pets, and taking a short tour of the shelter. Every participant will walk away with a DIY enrichment item for their pet. Registration for this event is free and required. Any children attending must be accompanied by an adult.
