Wayside Waifs is working with dedicated community members to reduce the population of community and feral cats over time and keep colonies through Trap Neuter and Return (TNR) programming.

What is TNR?

TNR is the act of humanely trapping community or feral cats, transporting them to a veterinary clinic for spay or neuter surgery, and then re-releasing them back into their exisiting colonies.

Why can’t these cats be kept at the shelter and adopted?

Community and/or feral cats are cats who often times have never lived indoors. Trying to acclimate them to a life indoors can be detrimental to their health, and inhumane. Re-releasing them into the area they are most familiar with after surgery allows them to continue living happy, healthier lives without the worry that they’ll procreate and cause the population numbers to increase.

Can I use this program to spay or neuter my indoor cat?

This program is only for outdoor community cats and/or feral cats being trapped and transported by our approved trapping partners. To apply to be one of our trapping partners, please follow the link below. If you are caring for a community cat colony and are unable to trap on your own, please reach out to [email protected] and we may be able to connect you with trappers in your area.
